Fruitcake and Friendship – two gifts that last a lifetime

Fruitcake and Friendship - two gifts that last a lifetime

I couldn’t resist sharing this funny Unicef card with you. It brought a big smile to my face. On the inside cover was a small notation – “the largest fruitcake was baked in India in 2011 and weighed over 8,000 pounds.” Can you imagine?

Thank you for your friendship and continuing support of My Carolina Kitchen.

I will be taking a little time off because my back has been giving me worse fits than normal for the past month and I have orders to take it easy for a while. I’ll see you after the first of the new year.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Best Wishes for the New Year

  1. Sam, I love that card! And I can't believe that a fruitcake could weigh 8,000 pounds! What kind of oven did they use??? And even better, who ate it??? ;-)

I am so sorry that you are having back issues, and I pray you will feel much better soon. I also wish you and Meakin a very Merry Christmas! Sending all my love along with best wishes...

  18. Hello Sam
It seems to me fruitcake was cherished more in the olden days when treats were few and far between, before there were so many other choices. I still enjoy it in small doses so long as it consists of "more batter and nuts" and less candied fruit.

Wishing you a happy holiday and much health. Enjoy visiting your blog and getting inspired by your recipes!

  21. That back of yours needs TLC. A chiropractor put me on to some new exercises about 5 years back and I never miss a day. He has worked a small miracle on me. Take care and have a good Christmas. Diane and Nigel.

  26. Merry Christmas, Sam! Wishing you all good things for 2014. I've been in back therapy on and off since June. It's a bear. Take good care of yourself and allow yourself to be spoiled!

  27. I hope that your Christmas was delicious and that your back is better soon! (I used to make very good fruitcakes with dried fruits (papaya, figs, pineapple, etc) pecans and rum. They were really tasty (and I don't normally like fruitcake) but they were expensive and time-consuming and when I heard one too many fruitcake jokes, I abandoned what had been a holiday tradition.)

  28. That's a LOT of fruit cake! I wouldn't mind a slice, but I don't think I can manage a whole one ;)

  29. Bummer! Take good care and we will be here when you are better.
