  1. Love that pic, Sam! I snapped 3 pounds of green beans yesterday, but wish I had seen pole beans like these at the farmers' market! Love those summer veggies and that basket too! Have a great day, dearie!

  3. Long beans? I found some at an early farmers' market and ended up just steaming them. Delicious!

    1. Don't I wish. This was taken at our local farmer's market. A Chinese lady bought almost all of them while we were there.

  10. I grew some purple long beans a few years ago and though I picked them quite young, they were awfully fibrous -- Were these tender?

    1. Good question and I don't know. We took this pix at the local farmer's market right before a Chinese lady bought almost all of them. They were really, really long and my guess that they were fibrous too. She said she used them in stir-fries. I've not had good luck stir frying green beans. For me they have turned out in most cases tough and we took great care not to over-cook them.

  13. Like I commented on Facebook, those are the longest beans that I've ever seen, Sam! You were smart to not over-cook them from previous experience!

  14. Amazing photo, Sam. Here I am counting down to Spring and dreaming of the dwarf green and yellow round bean plants I'll grow. The yellow ones are so sweet and juicy that they don't always make it to the kitchen - I munch them down there and then!

  15. I don't think I've seen these beans at my farmers' market this season. I'll have to look on Saturday.

  16. Lovely - we have just been getting a whole batch of green beans from the farm - but they are flat string beans. I've never seen anything like them!

  17. I see you have your own wordless post...the beans are beautiful. The small organic garden that I rent a plot from has been enjoying the Chinese long beans.

  20. Those remind me of snap beans which reminds me of my mom and her sisters sitting on the cinderblock front porch of my grandmom's farmhouse, snapping beans into a metal pot and chit chatting.
