Will Cook 4 Cash

Cooking Contests can earn you big prizes. Will Cook 4 Cash is a wonderful article in the Feb/March issue of Food Network magazine. More than $2 million dollars in prize money was awarded last year in contests last year. The article is loaded with information on how to write a winning recipe as well as what pitfalls to avoid so your recipe won’t be rejected. I’ve entered three contests and was a winner in all three. It’s a lot of fun and I encourage you to give it a try. Keep in mind, in some contests you don't have to prepare your recipe; you just send it in for judging as I did in the National Catfish Institute Competition. My very first contest was a regional one and I had to prepare my dish, which was Oysters Rockefellow en casserole. Only problem was I couldn't find any fresh oysters in May and had to send someone to the Fulton Fish Market in NYC to get them for me. So, plan ahead.

  1. I love cooking contests ... reading about them, not entering them! It's always fun to try out those recipes at home and find something new! Your dishes look incredible!!!

    Now I'm hungry!

  4. Ha, I don't think I'll be entering a contest any time soon. But maybe in the future...!
That chicken one sounds right up my alley - if I'm not baking desserts, I'm making chicken :)

  6. I wish I had the time to enter some contests! If you ever need oysters again, they grow them in Cedar Key, FL ~Thanks for visiting my site. I have not posted anything in quite a long time, but hope things will calm down some in my shop. I still do my tours to France and Italy, so that keeps me on the road, too! Take care and I will read again!

  9. Wow, that's so amazing that you've won something for all that you entered. That's really saying something! I saw on your profile that you wrote for a paper in Murphy county. My dad and his family are all from the teensy town of Robbinsville, NC.

  12. I won a contest in 2000 for that same recipe...one of my culinary teaching friends did not think it would hold up and I won first place!

Congrats, and I will have to check this out...great minds...

  13. Thanks for the heads up on Food Network's Feb/Mar issue. I've entered some contests, but only won twice. I'm going to try and get a copy to see what I'm doing wrong. (I do think some of it is luck though, depending on how many recipes are received, what they predominantly are.) Going to all the trouble of coming up with a recipe that has a new twist or different ingredients is a lot of work. Then to not have the recipe go any where is somewhat deflating. I'm giving it one more year. If I don't win anything else, I'm quitting.
