Monday Musings – On the Farm

Old MacDonald Had a Farm

Old MacDonald had a farm,
E-I-E-I-O.

And on his farm he had some chicks,
E-I-E-I-O.

With a chick, chick here,
And a chick, chick there,
Here a chick, there a chick,
Everywhere a chick, chick,

Old MacDonald had a farm,
E-I-E-I-O.

The farmer was George Vanderbilt III, a member of one of America’s oldest & wealthiest families. In 1895 George Vanderbilt built a French Renaissance style chateau, The Biltmore Estate, in Asheville, North Carolina and it is referred to as “America’s largest home.” The photos are from Antler Farms, part of the Biltmore Estate.

    1. Penny, we were there last year for my b'day and stayed at the Inn. The Inn does a fabulous job of pampering their guests and would definitely go back. It makes a nice leisurely weekend.

  5. I like that chicken--paying no attention to the messy "head", he/she looks like quite a strutter. I love the Inn and the estate. It has been a long time since our last visit.

    Best,
    Bonnie

  11. I love Antler Hill Village and the farm area, and this post reminds me that my passes are going to waste! I vowed to go this year when the sunflowers were in bloom, but missed it, I'm sure. Ahh... so much to do, and so many places calling my name!

    1. Brenda, lucky you to live close. I wish we were just a tiny bit closer so we could enjoy those passes too. I would also love to go to some of the concerts on the lawn.

  24. Crappy small farm..... ;) :) :-)

That chicken reminds me of a joke....
This old man is riding the city bus. He is watching the people get on the bus and get off of the bus. At one stop, a kid with a mohwak gets onto the bus. He had his mohawk dyed all of the colors of the rainbow; red, purple, orange, etc. The old man can't take his eyes off of the kid. He just keeps staring and staring. Finally, the kid gets up and walks over to the old man and says, "Haven't you ever done anything wild and crazy before in your life?" The old man replies, "Yes, once I [bleeped] a chicken and I think you may be my son!"
